About Gleadless Library
Gleadless Library has served the local community for generations. Since becoming volunteer-run in 2014, local people have worked together to keep the library open and ensure it continues to be a welcoming place for everyone.
Our Library Today
Today, Gleadless Library is a welcoming community space where people of all ages can borrow books, use computers, enjoy free Wi-Fi, print and photocopy documents, and take part in a growing programme of activities and events.
Run by volunteers and supported by The New Gleadless Library charity, the library continues to provide an important place to read, learn, meet others and spend time together.

Our Story
Gleadless Library has served the community for many years. Originally opened as a council library, it has continued to evolve while remaining an important part of local life.
Originally Opened
In 1968, Gleadless Library first opened to serve the growing community and quickly became an important neighbourhood resource.
Community Library
Today the library is operated by The New Gleadless Library, an independent charity created in 2014 and supported by volunteers and local people.

The library continues to grow, offering books, activities and community events while preserving its place at the heart of Gleadless.
